Why Should You Choose A Qualified Accountant?

Anyone can set up an accountancy practice, regardless of their experience and qualifications. If you choose an unqualified person you could be trusting your finances with an accountant who doesn’t have the experience to handle your affairs professionally and doesn’t have to abide by standards of conduct or comply with a code of ethics if something goes wrong.

The benefits of choosing a qualified accountant (registered with one of the UK Accounting Bodies such as AAT, ICAEW or ACCA ) include having an accountant who is regulated, licensed, insured, kept up to date with continued professional development and following a code of ethics to maintain professional standards.

Watch out for HMRC Scams

It could be a scam if it:

1.     is unexpected,    2.   offers a refund, tax rebate or grant,   3.   asks for personal information like bank details,   4.    is threatening,   5.  tells you to transfer money

You can be sure that HMRC will:

1.   only ever call you asking about a claim or payment on a debt that you already know about,   2. never leave a voicemail threatening legal action,   3.  never give the reason for a call on a voice message

If you receive any communication through WhatsApp claiming to be from HMRC it’s a scam.

SEISS 4th Grant

The online claims service for the fourth grant will be available from late April 2021 until 31 May 2021.

If you are eligible, HMRC will contact you in mid-April to give you your personal claim date. This will be the date that you can make your claim from. See webpage below for further information.

New Payroll Rules 2021

From 6 April 2021 HMRC are changing the off-payroll working rules. You can use the link below to check the employment status of yourself or your employees/contractors. The results can be printed and used as evidence to HMRC of determining employment status.

Similar to the first and second SEISS grants, the third SEISS grant will also be subject to Income Tax and self-employed National Insurance. Where you also claim Universal Credit (UC), the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme grant should be reported to DWP in the month the grant is paid and may affect the amount of UC received.

Happy hour for pubs as government cuts business rates

Posted on February 13, 2020 at 7:15 AM

Pubs to benefit from £1,000 business rates discount.

In a fresh demonstration of the government’s support for communities up and down the country, Sajid Javid confirmed the new Pubs Relief would be introduced in April, with £1,000 being taken off the business rates bills of small pubs who qualify.

As many as 18,000 pubs are expected to benefit from the discount.

The relief will come on top of an extended retail discount, which smaller pubs are also eligible for. Those eligible for both reliefs will get up to £13,500 off their annual bills.

The Pubs Relief is part of a package of measures that is being introduced by the government to support local high streets.
