Why Should You Choose A Qualified Accountant?

Anyone can set up an accountancy practice, regardless of their experience and qualifications. If you choose an unqualified person you could be trusting your finances with an accountant who doesn’t have the experience to handle your affairs professionally and doesn’t have to abide by standards of conduct or comply with a code of ethics if something goes wrong.

The benefits of choosing a qualified accountant (registered with one of the UK Accounting Bodies such as AAT, ICAEW or ACCA ) include having an accountant who is regulated, licensed, insured, kept up to date with continued professional development and following a code of ethics to maintain professional standards.

You can be sure that HMRC will:

1.   only ever call you asking about a claim or payment on a debt that you already know about,   2. never leave a voicemail threatening legal action,   3.  never give the reason for a call on a voice message

If you receive any communication through WhatsApp claiming to be from HMRC it’s a scam.

New employer legislation

Posted on December 17, 2018 at 5:10 AM

Employers - Please be aware of the following new legislation as it applies from today.

The government has introduced what it claims to be the biggest package of workplace reforms for 20 years after concerns that ministers have failed to appeal to voters who are “just about managing”.

Legislation that comes into effect today will ensure:

  • Employers give workers details of their rights from the first day in their job, including eligibility for paid and sick leave
  • Workers are given the right to request more predictable hours
  • Measures will be taken to ensure that seasonal workers get the paid time off they are entitled to
  • Iincreased fines of up to £20,000 for employers who have deliberately victimised their staff

The reforms, outlined by the business secretary Greg Clark, plan to stop the “unfair” use of pay-between-assignment contracts which allow businesses to opt out of equal pay arrangements for agency employees.
